The Role
This is a technically focused design and development position requiring a strong understanding of retail environments, permanent retail displays, fixtures, furniture and shopfitting.
You will take creative concepts and develop them into practical, buildable solutions, ensuring that every design meets the required aesthetic, functional, commercial and manufacturing objectives.

01 Responsibilities
- Develop creative retail concepts into fully engineered, manufacture-ready solutions.
- Work closely with Creative, Sales, Project Management, Engineering and Production teams to agree the most appropriate design and development solution.
- Take responsibility for the technical development and engineering direction of assigned retail projects.
- Develop solutions for a variety of retail fixtures, displays, furniture, branded environments and shopfitting applications.
- Produce accurate technical drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and supporting manufacturing documentation.
- Ensure all technical information and project documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timelines.
- Design with consideration for manufacturing processes, materials, assembly, installation, durability and the retail environment.
- Ensure designs achieve the required visual quality while remaining within agreed project budgets.
- Select and specify appropriate materials, components, finishes, manufacturing techniques and construction methods.
- Apply best-practice design and engineering principles across all projects.
- Work across several projects concurrently, effectively managing priorities and deadlines without compromising quality.
- Liaise closely with internal manufacturing teams and external suppliers to ensure designs can be manufactured efficiently and consistently.
- Provide technical support during prototype development, assembly, set-up and first-off production.
- Review and test components, prototypes and assemblies where appropriate to ensure they are fit for purpose before full production.
- Identify potential design, engineering or manufacturing issues at an early stage and develop practical solutions.
- Ensure Health & Safety, environmental considerations and relevant regulatory requirements are incorporated into design specifications.
- Maintain accurate and secure project data in accordance with established company procedures and protocols.
- Attend client meetings, site visits and retail surveys when required.
- Travel within the UK and internationally where necessary to support projects, installations, surveys and customer meetings.

03 Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a Technical Designer, Development Designer, Design Engineer or Technical Development Designer within the retail design sector.
- Previous experience developing retail displays, permanent POS/POP, retail fixtures, furniture, branded environments or shopfitting solutions.
- Strong understanding of the journey from creative concept through technical development, prototyping, manufacture and installation.
- Excellent technical drawing and detailing skills.
- Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes used within retail environments.
- Experience producing accurate BOMs, specifications and manufacturing documentation.
- Good commercial awareness with the ability to design against agreed project budgets.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical solutions without compromising creative intent.
- Experience in Solidworks
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to work across creative, commercial, engineering, manufacturing and client-facing teams.
