The Role
We are looking for an experienced Technical Designer with a strong background in beauty, cosmetics and premium retail environments.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the effective delivery of the design and development function, transforming creative concepts into technically robust, commercially viable and manufacture-ready retail solutions.
Working closely with Creative, Sales, Project Management, Production and external manufacturing partners, you will ensure designs retain the creative intent while being practical to manufacture, install and maintain within demanding retail environments.
This role requires a strong combination of technical design expertise, commercial awareness, materials and manufacturing knowledge, and experience delivering high-quality fixtures and displays for beauty and cosmetics brands.

01 Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Creative, Sales and Project Management teams to agree appropriate design and engineering solutions.
- Take overall responsibility for the technical design and development direction of allocated projects.
- Develop creative concepts into practical, cost-effective and manufacture-ready solutions suitable for premium retail environments.
- Ensure all designs meet the agreed project budget, programme, quality standards and client expectations.
- Produce and maintain accurate technical information including specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing drawings and associated project documentation.
- Ensure all specifications and relevant documentation are uploaded and maintained within the company's systems in line with agreed project timelines.
- Manage multiple development projects concurrently, prioritising workload effectively to achieve demanding deadlines.
- Apply appropriate materials, manufacturing processes, construction techniques and engineering principles to each design.
- Ensure design solutions incorporate company best practice while continually identifying opportunities for value engineering, innovation and improved manufacturability.
- Review and test components, prototypes and samples where appropriate to ensure they are fit for purpose prior to production.
- Provide technical support during prototyping, assembly, production set-up and first-off manufacture, resolving technical issues as required.
- Work closely with internal and external manufacturing teams to ensure a smooth and accurate handover from development into production.
- Ensure designs consider the practical requirements of transportation, installation, maintenance and the retail environment.
- Maintain accurate and secure project data in accordance with established company procedures and protocols.
- Ensure Health & Safety, environmental requirements and sustainability considerations are incorporated into design specifications.
- Attend customer meetings, site surveys, installations and project reviews as required.
- Undertake UK and international travel where necessary to support clients, suppliers and project delivery.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience developing high-quality retail environments, displays, fixtures or shopfitting solutions for beauty, cosmetics, fragrance or other premium consumer brands.
You will understand the exceptionally high standards of finish and attention to detail expected within cosmetics retail, including experience developing solutions incorporating a combination of materials and processes such as:
- Plastics and acrylic fabrication
- Metalwork
- Joinery and engineered timber products
- Glass and mirrors
- Lighting and LED integration
- Graphics and printed elements
- Decorative finishes and premium surface treatments
- Permanent and semi-permanent POS/POP displays
- Retail fixtures, counters, gondolas and merchandising units
- Experience developing solutions for department stores, concessions, travel retail, flagship stores or premium beauty environments would be particularly advantageous.

- Significant experience within development design, technical design or retail engineering.
- Strong experience within beauty/cosmetics retail, POS/POP, retail design, shopfitting or a closely related sector.
- Demonstrable ability to take a creative concept through technical development, prototyping and into manufacture.
- Excellent understanding of materials, manufacturing techniques, tolerances, construction methods and assembly processes.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to develop solutions that meet both design intent and project budget.
- Experience producing and reviewing detailed technical drawings, specifications and BOMs.
- Strong CAD/design software capability, ideally SolidWorks
- Ability to identify potential manufacturing or installation issues before they reach production.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of the quality expectations associated with premium beauty and cosmetics brands.
- Confident working across several projects simultaneously within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
