Key Function

  • Working as part of the cross-functional team you will transform visualised concepts into manufacturing-ready drawings.
  • You may be required to receive project briefings direct from the client.
  • You will be responsible for checking prototypes and factory first-off production units, presenting them to clients as appropriate to advance the project, travelling both within the UK and overseas as needed.
  • You are responsible for meeting deadlines, working with your colleagues to design displays that can be manufactured to client expectations. You will need to manage your own time effectively and communicate clearly with all your team members to ensure all are on track.
  • You will be the design champion for your team’s projects, owning the design and making it your responsibility to deliver it to the best quality possible.

 Main Duties

  • Working with the team Concept Designer and external design agencies to realise the chosen concept.
  • Sketch solutions to assembly/manufacturing problems or for estimation purposes.
  • Take approved visuals/concepts and produce 3D models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Ensure projects are designed to budget, actively looking for and promoting cost-saving opportunities during design development.
  • Work closely with Project Buyers to develop the appropriate combination of design and supplier, ensuring that designs meet the manufacturing capabilities of the supply base. Be conscious of varying regional supply capabilities and designing for the right market.
  • Manage the build and completion of your prototypes, ensuring the unit is presented to the client on time.
  • Visit factories as needed to verify display construction, specifications and quality.
  • Ensure project documentation adheres to company defined processes - detailed Parts Lists, first off report, QC guide lines and assembly diagrams.
  • Ensure designs are fit for purpose, adhering to any client requirements or health & safety needs.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience of working in POP and Retail design industry
  • An understanding and ideally experience with designing for manufacturing processes;
  • Steel fabrication - sheet metal, wire, tube, finishing
  • Plastic - injection moulding, sheet fabrication, vacuum forming, extrusions
  • Wood fabrication - sheet (MDF/chipboard), timber, wood by-products,
  • Good electronics knowledge, particularly with LED lighting.
  • Self-motivated
  • A good communicator, able to get ideas across and manage expectations in a non-confrontational manner
  • User of SolidWorks (or similar 3D modeller)

Objective

To co-ordinate and facilitate the flow of projects through the business in the most efficient and effective manner ensuring margin opportunities are maximised at all times.

Key Function

Responsible for the execution of display and merchandising projects. Working closely with functional partners, facilitate all aspects of project development from receipt of brief through to approval of first off article and then through support of admin team, to client delivery. Work directly with clients, external agencies and internal team associates as key contact to obtain all relevant project data and deliverables on time. Serve as client advocate (client champion) in resolving issues and bringing projects to completion. 

Key Duties

  • Review project briefs with the Account Manager prior to distribution to fully understand the client requirements, to ensure all correct details are included and all information is complete and ensuring budgets & time lines are achievable. (particularly between design and supply).  Communicate these through to the various team members.
  • Call and lead project kick-off and handover meetings between concept design, technical design and supply. Agree timelines and milestones.
  • Create, manage and monitor the overall project time plan with the individual stakeholders to ensure delivery on plan
  • Monitor budget compliance through the life of a project, drive for improvements, escalate cost increases.
  • Verify cost estimates are correct, and where they need to be prior to passing to sales person.
  • Review and establish team priorities and communicate change to Account Managers / Directors.
  • Act as the facilitator working with the team to break through issues or logjams which occur during a project lifecycle.   Ensure team members meet deadlines with correct and on-brief deliverables
  • Up-issue project briefs and orders due to internal decisions, artwork requirements, assembly guides etc
  • Call and lead team meetings
  • Serve as liaison to client contacts, coordinating client needs and requests with the company and other third party agency needs. Report implications and outcomes of project change (pre and post order) to client and across the company's partners.
  • Work proactively on methods to drive efficiency and reduce cost in all areas throughout the business.
  • Analyse and review project performance with the team to ensure continuous improvement.

 KPI’s

  • Manage a project to ensure delivery within the agreed timeframe.
  • Monitor and report on budget compliance throughout the project lifespan.
  • Schedule and lead kick-off and handover meetings in order to quickly establish a project timeline.
  • Accurate reporting on projects to the client / sales / directors to ensure that all relevant parties are kept informed of and project related deviations, delay or other issues.

Experience, Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years experience of working in PM role preferably within POP, Store Fixture or Retail sector or equivalent.
  • Strong track record of successful customer management with bespoke projects, preferably in permanent materials such as wood, plastics and steel.  Prefer experience working directly with global brands or directly with retailers
  • Experience of Microsoft Office, including strong excel skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly numerate and able to analyse and add value to information
